Thanks, so I'll run it on my Pro, which indeed has the old kernel installed.

I have pogoplug pro POGO-P01. Can I install the PCI kernel? Any other things I need to watch out?

Do I just replace the line in the script by replacing this

nandwrite -p -s 0x500000 /dev/mtd1 boot/uImage.nopci

with this

nandwrite -p -s 0x500000 /dev/mtd1 boot/uImage.pci

I think we need a list of packages we should have in our pacman blacklist. After i remove initscripts from the blacklist, it seems to want to update everything including:

linux mkinitcpio systemd-tools libusbx filesystem....

I blacklisted linux since i know we aren't supposed to run the 3.1 kernel, and let the rest update, and my popgo has gone south.

Also for the new kernel package I can't find the following module for wireless

rt3390sta.ko

And when I try to insmod this old module with the new kernel...

I got the following in the message.log

Jun 14 07:34:09 alarm kernel: [ 4452.670000] PCI: enabling device 0000:00:00.0 (0140 -> 0142)

Jun 14 07:34:09 alarm kernel: [ 4452.670000] === pAd = c8a58000, size = 519160 ===

Jun 14 07:34:09 alarm kernel: [ 4452.680000] <-- RTMPAllocAdapterBlock, Status=0
Jun 14 07:34:09 alarm kernel: [ 4452.690000] pAd->CSRBaseAddress =0xf5000000, csr_addr=0xf5000000!

Then I run
ifconfig ra0 up

and my system is no long accessible from SSH

Any idea?

i downloaded and ran the update script http://archlinuxarm.org/os/oxnas/update-oxnas.tar.gz on my pogoplug pro. i rebooted and it does not get an ip address nor am i (obviously) able to connect via ssh.

I installed a fresh rootfs to my usb drive and still am stuck.

did i brick my pogoplug pro?
Pogo Plug Pro with ALARM SATA rootfs
success: wireless, samba, sabnzbd, sickbeard, transmission, lamp with Gallery3 and newznab+, rsync server, tor
still trying: avahi, minidlna
up next: asterisk, openvpn, proxy server of some sort
gave up: nfs and lvm

Does no one ever read the line about these devices being UNBRICKABLE.

I will roll a completely new rootfs tonight.

I will leave the old one intact for the purpose of upgrading the NAND kernel.

notice
I am also rebuilding the kernel image. I am enabling CONFIG_DEVTMPFS_MOUNT, so no matter what initscripts decides to futz with, /dev will be populated.

After upgrade, make sure check you /dev/ and see if random/tty*/mtd*/sdb* are there.
if not, mknod of them, otherwise you will not be able to boot up.
