[solved]Connect to pogoplug after booting from SATA

Postby belga » Fri Feb 24, 2012 8:59 am

Hi,

I followed that thread viewtopic.php?f=29&t=2146
I'have now the green light on the Pogoplug B04.

But I see no ip address allocated by the box.

I plugged the Pogoplug directly on the pc.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '# Ifconfig eth0 169.254.1.0
# nmap -e eth0 -sP 169.254.0.0/16
Starting Nmap 5.00 (http://nmap.org) at 2012-02-24 8:53 UTC
Nmap done: 256 IP addresses (0 hosts up) scanned in 5.29 seconds')
An idea ?

Thanks

Re: Connect to pogoplub bricked After booting from SATA

Postby WarheadsSE » Fri Feb 24, 2012 1:19 pm

1) people need to stop saying bricked
2) If you're getting a green status light it is not bricked

Yes, look for forum posts that describe not showing up on the network.

Issues we've found so far:
- Auto-negotiation issues with switches
- oddball dhcp responses getting ignored
- occasionally, dhcp requests getting ignored.

Since yesterday I have "traveled" all threads of viewforum.php?f=29,
I have a headache and the level of my english is blocking me.

I tried with dhcpcd eth0 in the rc.local file (viewtopic.php?f=29&t=2301#p12560).

I confess I do not understand your words following
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '-') Auto-negotiation issues with switches
- oddball dhcp responses getting ignored

From the topic on setting up SATA:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('WarheadsSE', 'N')ext, if you `ls -l` you will see the contents of the tarball, and there are 3 symlinks. These three symlinks are: stage1.wrapped, u-boot.wrapped and uImage. Out of the tarball, I have the 850Mhz overclocked stage1 symlinked, the only u-boot I have included symlinked and the uImage.pci kernel symlinked. Unless you have a PCI bus, such as on the Pogoplug Pro (P01), you MUST change this. If you are not sure, ASK!

You said you had a "Pogoplug B04", which is one of the ".nopci" models, the files come preconfigured for ".pci"(ie the PRO model). I had the same problem of it booting up and not getting an IP. Once I changed the symlink for the uImage to the non-pci version and re-ran the `disk_create` script, my system worked fine and connected to the network. Not sure how I missed this at first but it was so simple.

Hi,

Yes I have changed. In fact I did this:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '# rm uImage.pci
# mv uImage.nopci uImage.pci')

I will try to find a cable nokia 42 because all my tests
brought nothing.

Maybe the network card has a problem.

Hi

I finally found what was wrong: the ethernet cable connecting the box to the Pogoplug.
Yet when I connect to the pc it works.

I used another cable and it works. Thank you.

I still have to replace the original mtd0.
I feel that it will not be easy for me.

Thank you for this wonderful job.
I think I'll make a hole in the pogo to connect the sata disk permanently :).

As far as I know there are three people (many more surely) that I know who have completely reclaimed a ubootable pogoplug pro and restored to their stock. WarheadsSE; timstegeman & taker. Their posts are all scattered in tiny nuggets. At some point there was a mention of one GUIDE to document step by step how to restore to stock an unbootable pogo pro, but I have searched in vain so far to lay my hands on one if there was any :(.
Actually all these pogos can be started by using the SATA boot that WarheadsSE so eloquently documented. So all the whining that we keep making that the pogos got bricked is definitely untrue. However what is true is the pogoplugs pro can definitely be restored to their stock, but the sad fact is the documented procedure in clear crisp manner is still very elusive.
I have two unbootable pogos currently that I can boot only via the SATA boot. But the sight of a ungainly open box with cable jutting out of the pogo connected to an external drive is at best a necessary evil unless some of these kind souls that have re-enabled the booting option of a pogo on its own without the SATA provided us a guide.
This is a fervent request to these masters to please help us with a documented guide to bringing the pogos to their stock boot.It would bring a thousand cheers to many of us here that have by oversight or stupidity rendered our pogos to an unbootable state.
Can some one please point to guide if already exists or provide a detailed procedure to make a pogoplug pro bootable on its own without the SATA connection ?
TIA
