CP2102 usb/serial converter

Postby estratos » Thu Mar 08, 2012 6:20 pm

Anyone knows whether the CP2102 USB/serial converted (from Silabs) is supported by the latest Archlinuxarm kernel? I purchased one of these after verifying that my FT232RL converters (from FTDI) were not supported but I think that I'll have no better luck with the new one. Dmesg is showing the following when I plug the serial converter into one of the usb ports of my Pogoplug Pro:

[ 359.670000] usb 1-1.1: new full speed USB device using oxnas-ehci and address 4
[ 359.780000] usb 1-1.1: New USB device found, idVendor=10c4, idProduct=ea60
[ 359.780000] usb 1-1.1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
[ 359.790000] usb 1-1.1: Product: CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller
[ 359.800000] usb 1-1.1: Manufacturer: Silicon Labs
[ 359.800000] usb 1-1.1: SerialNumber: 0001
[ 359.810000] usb 1-1.1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

Thanks in advance for your help!

I read somewhere that the old FT232BM was supported and some Prolific IC's I think. However, I've not been able to find any comment related to the CP2102 IC.

Thanks.

I was able to get a CP2102 based device working (Davis Weatherlink USB-serial data logger for my Vantage Pro 2 weatherstation). I had to compile modules for CP210x and USBserial first. Have you tried that?

Thanks for your reply.

I don't want to recompile sources so I've finally ordered a PL2303-based converter. I think they are supported by archlinuxarm out of the box.

Thanks again!
