modprobe error

Postby nightshark » Wed Mar 21, 2012 7:09 pm

Hi all,

I have searched all over this forum but can't seem to find a solution.

When i try to do a modprobe zd1211rw for my usb wireless. It returns the "fatal: module not found".

I am not sure if this is related but uname -a returns:

Linux alarm 2.6.31.6_SMP_820 #100 SMP Sun May 29 04:53:45 EDT 2011 armv6l ARMv6-compatible processor rev 5 (v6l) Oxsemi NAS GNU/Linux

and pacman -Si linux returns:

Description : The Linux Kernel and modules

Why is my system behaving like this? I have a B01 Pogoplug.

Sorry if these are simple questions and have been answered before.

Regards!

That's because on the pogoplug pro the kernel used is not the one provided by the linux package.
It is either the one provided by the vendor when you purchased the device and loading from flash, or the one you installed on sda1 if you boot from sata. By default this is pretty much the same 2.6.31 really really trimmed down.

there are litteraly dozens and dozens of posts that relate to that single fact in the pogoplug pro section of the forum.

I encourage you to search the forum with terms like "SATA boot", "compile kernel" and "missing module".

The executive summary could be "We're working on it, be patient, we do not have so much time to devote to it and there is a lot to do. Impatients are welcome to compile their own kernel"
