Help needed - Can't boot

Postby biomedica » Wed Apr 04, 2012 5:10 pm

Hello,

After following the instructions posted on this website in order to install the Arch Linux in my PogoPlug PRO I am unable to boot the box. I performed the first installation using the SSH, however when enabling the automounting I got a lot of conflicts which have been already reported by other users on this forum. Afterwards. after rebooting the box the LED would blink for like 20 minutes and then it would turn off. I was able to ping the box and there is an IP address being assigned to the box. However, I am not able to SSH to it. At that point, I decided to install the contents of the tar.gz file in the USB drive using the latest Ubuntu Live CD version. I formated the drive using the GUI interface using an ext3 filesystem. Now, the instructions say to create a file with the mac address in the /usr/local dir. Sadly, the instructions posted on the website are very poor written and a lot of details are missing. It would be great if you guys would include more detailled information. At this point, I am stuck with a non-functional box and I don´t know what to do. When I try to create a file on the /usr/local the Ubuntu does not allow me to write on that dir. When, I try to enter in the /usr/local dir through the Terminal I get an error saying that is not a dir. How do I create the MAC address file? At this point, I have the tar.gz file extracted in the USB drive and I am stuck here.

Your help would be really appreciated. Maybe if I find out how to fix this I will write a better tutorial since the one posted is lacking important info and it just says that additional troubleshoothing might be required....

Thanks

/Cough

- Attach drive to another system, that speaks ext2/3 (usually linux, of some flavor)
- Check the partition format of that drive.
- Format your flash drive as ext2 or ext3.. This is dependant on what *had* been on it.
- Extract the rootfs, as root or for Ubuntu users, 'sudo su' first.
- Verify the files exist.
- Create a file that would amount to /usr/local/mac_addr. This means where the file is actually /path/to/usb/usr/local/mac_addrnot actually /usr/local/mac_addr

Do I need to go on?

This isn't in need of a better tutorial, because I am not the internet's manual.

Thanks for your help. I am sorry about my ignorance in Linux. Do I create the file using the Terminal? If so which command do I use? Also, is this file empty? Thanks.

Okay I will try that later. I am assuming it is going to be an empty file. Thanks.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'C')reate a file at /usr/local/mac_addr and place in it your Pro's MAC address (its on the bottom of the unit) in the format XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX.

Please see here for further instruction.

Linux is finally installed and running. I was able to SSH in the box as well. Now, my only question is do I lose the ability to use the Pogoplug software? If so, which linux package should I install in order to allow my files to be accessed the same way, i.e. through a cloud. Thanks.

Seriously? http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv6/pogoplug-provideov3#qt-platform_tabs-ui-tabs2

Right at the top, in big red box.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')y.pogoplug.com, the mobile applications, and the desktop Pogoplug connector will no longer work.

You've got 4 questions in 1 thread, and failed to read the installation instructions page how many times?
