cups (gs) gets too much resources

Postby yolongyi » Mon Apr 09, 2012 7:14 am

I have a pogo-b01 ( pogoplug classic ) with arch.
I've set up cups with HP printer and ended up successfully.
but the problem is cups gets too much resources.
( actually gs gets too much )

after set up, I printed test page from cups web interface.
when it is printing, gs gets too much resource, so I can't do anything with pogo.
even terminal stops to respond.
and it is too slow... it takes about 5 mins to completely print just one test page. :o

is it natural?
does the pogoplug have not enough power to be printer server ?
or do you think there is any problem ?

if you have any knowledge about this plz let me know about it.

actually I don't need the pogo to process any render or conversion for printing.
everything is done in client and the pogo gives that data to the printer without any action is enough like HP/jetdirect.
so, if you know any good way to share printer also comment about it please.

thanks in advance.

Takes vs Gets, but I get the idea.

These plugs are low on RAM, and a lot of them have no fpu, so graphics can slow them down when it gets floating-point math included. Is this printer USB, or network? Because in theory, you should be able to send RAW if your printer supports it.

Thanks for your comment :D

My printer is the USB printer.

Since CUPS does not use usblp ( even unloads usblp module ) after updated,
I can not add the printer as RAW to cups.
I think I can make cups as JetDirect server via xinetd if I can add the printer as raw printer.

Does anyone know how to use usb printer as raw ?
If anyone knows it plz let me know

Anyway... now I have set up via p910nd and succeeded to share the printer without CUPS daemon.

any comment are welcome ^^
