Is this update safe to run?

Postby Mazdaspeed6 » Mon Jul 09, 2012 11:48 am

Decided to run my monthly pacman -Syu and see if there were any updates needed and there are a few that are saying confict and wanting to remove the current one and replace it.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', ':: Starting full system upgrade...
warning: initscripts: ignoring package upgrade (2011.07.3-1 => 2012.06.1-1)
:: Replace libusb with core/libusbx? [Y/n] n
:: Replace python-beautifulsoup with community/python2-beautifulsoup3? [Y/n] n
:: Replace pyxdg with extra/python2-xdg? [Y/n] n
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
:: systemd-tools and udev-oxnas are in conflict (udev). Remove udev-oxnas? [y/N] n
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: systemd-tools and udev-oxnas are in conflict')

Is it safe to answer yes to these or do i need to do something first? reason im asking is last time i did that i had to start over due to it not booting up anymore.

Short answer "not like this".

    systemd-tools and udev-oxnas are in conflict
you need to perform the kernel update first. If you boot form sata you 'll need to dd the new kernel on the first partition, if you boot from usb you need to flash it using the update-oxnas.sh script.

    :: Replace libusb with core/libusbx? [Y/n] n
    :: Replace python-beautifulsoup with community/python2-beautifulsoup3? [Y/n] n
    :: Replace pyxdg with extra/python2-xdg? [Y/n] n
are safe though

I only use USB and i saw the zip on the link above but how do i run it? Sorry for the stupid questions, i did read that thread but couldnt make sense of it.

Will i loose/gain anything by updating this? I dont want to spend forever getting everything fixed and working again to gain nothing from the update.

Yes, you gain the ability to actually update your plug.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Philoo', 'I')f you boot form sata you 'll need to dd the new kernel on the first partition

So I'm just about to do this update... I'm booting from SATA on the PogoPlug Pro in the exact same way as described by WarheadsSE here: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=2146#p11512. Can you elaborate a bit more?

I have already grabbed the tarball with the new kernel (viewtopic.php?f=29&t=2453#p17713) (not the new rootfs also listed in that thread), I want to use uImage.pci and retain the 850mhz OC (I'm not sure if the kernel update will muck with that...?).

Let me know if this is the procedure: Shutdown the pogoplug, attach my SSD with existing rootfs to another computer, then dd the new kernel to the first partition of that drive.

If this is all correct, what would the dd line look like?

You can even DD to partition 1 from the running partition

dd if=uImage.pci of=/dev/sdX1 bs=4096
