Best option for accessing files (video, audio etc)

Hi

I know this seems like a terribly basic question to ask and I risk being shot down in flames but believe me I have googled and searched...

I seem to have successfully installed archlinux on a Pogoplug Pro.

My primary aim is to be able to access and stream video, audio and document files of varying types from a hard drive attached to the Pogoplug. This being so, what should I use? At first it will just be just at home but maybe later accessing externally might be useful.

I should perhaps add, I will be accessing the files from a laptop running linux mint, an android phone and possibly an android tablet in the near future
