Which pogoplug are you using?
The Pro/Video/V3/B0-? pogoplugs have a hard time picking the right USB drive. The bottom connector on the back is the first one it tries, but if the Hard disk isn't ready it can miss it. You can boot from one drive, then plug in the others and mount them or turn on automounting.
I boot from a SATA drive, and then it is fine with multiple USB drives.
