Updating glibc on my V3 still fails

Postby campigenus » Mon Oct 01, 2012 11:39 pm

OK, I might be slow, or something. :-(

I am still unable to update glibc no matter what I try. Can someone who has installed recently - I started with a fresh tarball - do a step by step for the slow ones among us.

No problem keeping a V2/kirckwood up to date, if that means anything.

Thanks y'all.

I am finishing up a kernel update to help with systemd (hopefully), I will try to get an updated rootfs done up tomorrow.

Much appreciated. Your reply, and, especially, your hard work.

There may be different packages stopping your glibc to update?
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'grep '^lib/' /var/lib/pacman/local/*/files | grep -v glibc')
and remove all those offending packages (those that have ownership besides glibc)
After that
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'rm -rf /lib/modules
mv /lib/firmware/gmac_copro_firmware /usr/lib/firmware')
then you should be able to update (worked on my pro)
if for whatever reason you get "pacman: No file or directory" kind of error, try
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '/lib/ld-2.16.so /usr/bin/pacman -S glibc')

Hope this will get you running for now.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('WarheadsSE', 'I') am finishing up a kernel update to help with systemd (hopefully)...

:waits patiently:
Side note: will we be able to update from initscripts or will starting fresh be the only option?

It should be updateable.

don't know about the tarball WHSE was mentionning, but I did a full reinstall (actually 3) with an complete update from the 2012-07 rootfs this week.

systemd is no longer an offender neither the kernel26-oxnas or gmac-copro-firmware, however for some reason pcmciautils is in the way.
what works for me from a fresh rootfs (on a SATA boot) is:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'pacman -Syu --ignore glibc
pacman -R pcmciautils
pacman -Su')

Thanks for the suggestion. That's in fact one of the variations I did try. To no avail. (Running from an external USB HD. )

Maybe I shouldn't have rushed ... I did it the "wrong" way ... but it worked.

"Wrong way" =

1. connect HD to another plug
2. move everything from "lib" to "usr/lib"
3. remove "lib" and do a "ln -s usr/lib lib"
4. connect to original plug and do a "pacman Syuf"

So far it seems OK. I wonder what kind of future trouble I set myself up for. :-|
