If you haven't rebooted
/usr/lib/ld-2.16.so /usr/bin/pacman -Syu --ignore glibc
/usr/lib/ld-2.16.so /usr/bin/pacman -Syu

ok - have now reinstalled a clean most recent tar from here.
upgrading the system had same error - did:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'pacman -Syu --ignore glibc') which worked
than $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', ']pacman -Syu') which still gave me an error than following this:https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/DeveloperWiki:usrlib
i did $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', ']pacman -Su') with still same error

any ideas - the system working as far as i can tell but obviously something is wrong and i am worried it will break on me with a software update at some point

What worked for me was to boot up from another bootable USB stick, then plug this one in and use pacman's --root flag to update it. That way, pacman won't break in the middle of the update.

ok - seems to got this sorted in a round way

1 installed fresh tar into partition

2 cp all from lib to /usr/lib

3. renamed /lib to /0lib (for safety) - $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'mv lib 0lib')

4. made symbolic link to /usr/lib
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '/lib/ld-2.16.so /usr/bin/ln -s /usr/lib lib')

pacman works again

still some issues with glibc upgrading but the rest seems to work

Using mmoalem's suggestions, I came up this to get around the "glibc" update problem and do a full update.

.. Starting after line 12 (reboot) of fresh Archlinux Arm OXNAS install (see install page)... ,

Power down and remove flash drive from Pogoplug P21.

1) copy /lib to /usr/lib however you choose, I used Puppy Linux drag and drop because ‘cp’ was not working for me. Double check to make sure files copied!
You can use any thing a that will copy files on a ext3 file system. (not windows)

Now plug in flash and boot Pogo with ArchLinux again, then ssh in...

In terminal cut and paste line by line
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
**commands deleted because they could break the install**
')

Seems to work every time. You will have to copy and paste into term
"line by line" as I don't know how to make the sh scripts execute binaries. Yes,
I tried every step line for line to make sure it works. Not telling how long it took to get right..

Btw, I’m new. I got my first NAS back 2006 in the form of a Unslung NSLU2. From then on, Dsm g-600, DS-508 (was my favorite but had to sell it), EasyStore H342(now main nas), and now Pogo P21(tinker toy for web).

While this may work for you, let me tell you this is a horribly bad process.

Never force glibc.

The proper process has been documented.

pacman -R pcmciautils kernel26-oxnas-pci kernel26-oxnas-nopci
pacman -Syu --ignore glibc
# say no to updating pacman first.
pacman -Su
# if this complains about /lib. see upstream that the referred guide: here

would anything "bad" happen if you update pacman first?
Pogo Plug Pro with ALARM SATA rootfs
success: wireless, samba, sabnzbd, sickbeard, transmission, lamp with Gallery3 and newznab+, rsync server, tor
still trying: avahi, minidlna
up next: asterisk, openvpn, proxy server of some sort
gave up: nfs and lvm
