Attempted to restore...

Postby DocTauri » Tue Nov 13, 2012 12:34 am

So my pink Pogo plug v3 was working great, I had it booting from an external USB drive and was using it for months. I decided I wanted instead to get a small profile thumbdrive and boot from it instead. I tried different methods of copying the external HD to the thumbdrive with no luck, so decided I'd revert the unit back to stock and rehack, figuring there were probably some updates I needed to take anyway.

So, I followed the instructions here:
http://in.sert.co.in/alarm-oxnas-restor ... mware.html

It ran without a hitch, and I rebooted. That's when my world turned to hammered crap.

The green light just flashes, with or without the hacked external HD plugged in. On the off chance it actually came up and got an IP, I nmap'd my network, it's not there...

Suggestions?

Thanks!

At this point, I would suggest a serial connection. Something looks odd.

Ok, I ebay'd a USB-TTL board and hooked it up. Here's my boot output

Perhaps the restore script altered some boot parms? Printenv shows this

You've botched your uboot environment left & right.

It has an altered root= line, but it is not setup correctly. Cause => effect.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
bootcmd=run boot_nand => Loading from device 0: 128MiB 3,3V 8-bit (offset 0x200000)
')

You are missing the following to be able to boot ALARM:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'load_custom_nand=nboot 60500000 0 500000
boot_custom=run load_custom_nand boot || run load_custom_nand2 boot
bootcmd=run boot_custom')

If you want to run pure stock:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
bootargs=root=ubi0:rootfs ubi.mtd=2,512 rootfstype=ubifs console=ttyS0,115200 elevator=cfq mac_adr=0x00,0x30,0xe0,0x00,0x00,0x01 mem=128M ')

My suggestion: change the bootargs back to stock, since for whatever reason they are different. The revert script did it's thing correctly, so I am not sure what happened. Interrupt uboot and TYPE, beware copy paste! Also, those quote are important.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
setenv bootargs='root=ubi0:rootfs ubi.mtd=2,512 rootfstype=ubifs console=ttyS0,115200 elevator=cfq mac_adr=0x00,0x30,0xe0,0x00,0x00,0x01 mem=128M'
saveenv
reset')

After that, run the installer with the latest tarball.

Re: Attempted to restore...

Thanks for the help. I tried the above but it still didn't work, messing around, I realized that the first equal sign isn't needed, so

setenv bootargs 'root=ubi0:rootfs ubi.mtd=2,512 rootfstype=ubifs console=ttyS0,115200 elevator=cfq mac_adr=0x00,0x30,0xe0,0x00,0x00,0x01 mem=128M'

worked. I was able to boot up, ssh in, run the install, etc. The installer complained with:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '#')# Unknown uBoot detected on mtd0: 188602682dada4308e3d9945c3f6b6ed
##
## The installer could not detect the version of your current uBoot
## This may happen if you have installed a different uBoot on
## /dev/mtd0 or if you have bad blocks on /dev/mtd0
##
## If you have bad blocks on mtd0, you should not try to install uBoot.
##
## Installation cancelled.

Looking through the installer code, I reran with "--no-uboot-check", and, when asked what device I was running, selected "5 - Pogoplug v2 - Pink". It ended with "completed successfully". I plugged in my external hard drive previously created, did a restart, and my world turned to even worse hammered crap than before ;-)

So now, I get absolutely nothing in the console. The unit powers on, the ethernet power light comes on, and the activity light does some really fast flashing, but that's it. The front light never comes on, and I get no output on the console.

I do believe that I have screwed the pooch, but I'll defer to the more knowledgeable...

Thanks,

*facepalm*

Yes, the pooch needs KY.

You'll need to be willing to make a SATA boot disk to get it back.

Ok, so I didn't promise to leave you entirely alone...

I built the disk and got the Pogo to boot from it, but it wasn't totally successful. I've attached the log file from Putty (sorry about the .zip but it wouldn't take a .txt or .log), but here are some lines of note:

Again, any help is appreciated. I realize at this point that I'd have been better off buying a new one, but it's the challenge ;-)

Thanks!
