Sqlite vs MySQL, lighttpd vs Apache

Postby mrhuge » Tue Jan 22, 2013 11:18 pm

I've just installed Arch & Samba on my new Pogoplug B01, connected to a Windows 7 network. It seems to be working fine as far as I can tell - I can access shares from Windows, access the plug through putty, move files back and forth, etc.

I was on the verge of installing Apache and Sqlite, and then I read things (mostly here) suggesting using more lightweight alternatives. If the difference between the alternatives is that the big brothers have a few advanced features, then I expect I'll be fine with the smaller ones - I'm not likely to be much of a power-user. On the other hand if the less known packages are less supported or harder to install than the more popular ones, it might be better for me to just go with the standards.

Can anyone advise me about what the differences are, whether I'm likely to see a performance boost or avoid resource problems with the slim versions, and how much trickier (if at all) they are than the big guys? (Obviously feel free to answer about just one if that's what you know)
