internal SATA - will it spin down?

Dear V3 users/devvers,

Since it seems impossible to get external drives 100% working using v3 (see my previous post). I was wondering the following. I have a 2.5 inch SATA disc which might be linked to the internal SATA port of the V3.
Using this approach, booting would always occur from this drive. So far so good.

But will the disc spindown after a few min of inactivity? Or will it always stay powered on? Can I for instance use another 4GB USB flash for logging purposes, thereby reducing the load on the 2.5 inch HD (which will stay powered down).

Any ideas?
