8GB SATA DOM on POGO-P21 power

Postby jimbolaya » Tue Mar 19, 2013 1:53 am

I am working on doing the boot from SATA and I found these cheap 8GB SATA DOM (disk on module) SSDs on eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kingspec-8GB-SATA-DOM-MLC-Flash-SSD-Disk-On-Module-Network-PC-Solid-State-Drive-/310421036909?pt=US_Solid_State_Drives&hash=item4846891f6d

While it's a little tall to stick straight up from the SATA port on the board, with some creative cabling it will fit easily into the case.

It comes with a 2 wire power that taps into to a standard 4-pin molex extension (like a case fan) on the 5v side (not the 12v side).

If I solder this directly to one of the USB power pads, will the drive power up immediately? If not, does anyone know if there are 5v pads directly on the power supply in the top of the case?

Thanks

James

I done something similar (different type of SSD) and used the pins from one of the USB ports to get the +5V. It powers up the drive when you power the device, so you can boot from it.

I finally got my Pogo v3 working with this last bit from this post http://archlinuxarm.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=2146&start=360#p30799

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'mount /dev/sdf2 /mnt/random
dd if=/mnt/random/boot/uImage.nopci of=/dev/sdf1 bs=512
sync
umount /mnt/random')

I ended up soldering the power leads to a ground pad and TP33_VDD5V0 which I tested out to make sure it was 5V. Then I hot-glued all the delicate wires down and put the drive in a little plastic envelope.

I can post pictures if anyone is interested.

Sure, I would be interested to see photos. I was wondering how the DOM could fit inside the case, unless it has a right-angled connector.
