Pro vs v4 - worth the switch to v4?

Postby Praetor » Thu May 16, 2013 12:07 am

I'm contemplating springing for a v4 to replace my Pro. While the Pro has been doing its job in a satisfactory manner for the past year(?), some of the quirks are beginning to bug me.

Judging from what I've read, installing alarm is even easier on the pro. Is the cpu better supported than the oxnas?

This post may be better served in the other forum, but I figured I'd start here.

The V4 is a kirkwood variant, and supported by mainline.

You lose dual core, but get USB3 & a nice dock.

I like the form factor of the V4, especially if you have or plan to use a USM hard drive. Otherwise the E02 is the prefered model for most users - cheap price (as low as $15), 256MB and faster (single core) processor @1.2Ghz.

The E02 are actually around US$55 on ebay.
Cheaper on Amazon, but the seller could send you any model.

If you're in the USA, Pogoplug appears to be trying to get rid of some V4 stock. Can pick one up for $30 shipped:

Hi, if I can't get an E02 do you recommend the V4 (series 4)?

If you can't get a E02, you really don't have much of a choice, so the V4 is your best option.

Not sure if you're in the US or not, but you can get the B01 (chances are its a E02) for around $30.
