networkless connection to beaglebone black

I am trying to access a terminal on my bbb but do not have access to it over my network. Ideally I could get something running like the serial connection in Angstrom over /dev/ttyACM0 but I have no idea how to set this up. Any suggestions?

Via simply connecting to the UART console with a USB TTL adapter? Or are you expecting to just plug in a mini-usb cable.

I was hoping for usb as I don't currently have a converter.
