I fear the issue with ALSA starting up at 100% volume regardless of saved values has reappeared.
In a discussion from mid 2013 the solution proposed and successfully tested was to switch to a 3.8 version kernel.
With my Pi running "Linux version 3.10.36-1-ARCH" I do have the same behaviour again; after a reboot the volume starts at 100% (way too loud) while e.g. Alsamixer already displays the correct (lower) setting and minimal adjustment in Alsamixer (or from mpc / mpd in my case) brings it down to the level desired.
Same thing with update to linux-raspberrypi-latest.
Any idea?
