[SOLVED] Moving root from one USB to another?

Postby nellson » Sun Jul 06, 2014 6:50 pm

Hey Guys,

Had great success converting my Pogo Plug 4's into DNS/DHCP/SMB servers, but I used whatever USB sticks I had lying around.. Now I got a Costco 2pack on the little micro 16G Sandisk USB dongles. Would someone be kind enough to point me at a procedure for copying my systems to the new drives? (Previous drives are 4G and 8G, so not a simple one for one dd copy I suspect) And, would I want to just eat the whole disk as one partition, or is there any advantage to making other partitions?

(Saw folks posting about a number of other image copies, but didn't see one that spoke to what I was attempting)

Thanks in advance.
Nick

Ahhh, of course that was where it was hiding.. Thank you.

I was unable to get that process to work, so I did a slight variation.

1. plugged in new 16 gig drive
2. Used the INSTALLATION manual to format the drive as EXT2 (not 4)
3. Then downloaded and unpacked the distro.
4. Used my other pogoplug to act as the copy server and did the old -> new copy
5. Booted to new drive.

The real difference was the FS as far as I can see. My initial load used EXT2, so I stayed with that and it booted.
