script to start when HDMI monitor is turned on?

I'm running kodi on a wandboard running Arch Linux ARM. I have a PC monitor (ASUS VN289H) connected to the wandboard with a HDMI cable. The wandboard is on 24/7 because it's also running my logitech media server. I wonder if there's a nice way to get kodi to start when I power up my PC monitor. It would also be nice to quit kodi when the screen goes off (but that's less important).

Any suggestions?
