BROKEN SYSTEM: Missing python-protobuf and bazel from repos

Postby Sbyrr0 » Thu Jun 27, 2024 8:31 am

Guys, WTF is going on? Why are packages disappearing?
current protobuf 27 is incompatible with the existing python-protobuf 3.25.
However, MoSh needs protobuf 27 to work

I cannot rebuild from scratch python-protobuf 3.27, as it requires bazel (also missing!), and bazel takes HOURS to recompile from scratch.

Basically, I either keep my containers running relying on an old version of python-protobuf and protobuf, or remove podman entirely and update protobuf to please MoSh.

Had to come out of the woodwork to add my two cents here.
The python-protobuf package is also a dependency for crui, which is needed for crun and Podman, which are all still available in the repo, but cannot be built now.

I'm all ears for a solution here!

I have the exact same issue with podman. I just workaround it by ignoring that particular dependency and podman is still working in my rock5:
pacman -S podman --assume-installed python-protobuf
Is it a way I can help to reestablish this package?
I also noticed that
Source Files
link is not working for any package

I workarounded by downloading protobuf-5.27.2-py3-none-any.whl frommake_clickable_callback(MAGIC_URL_FULL, ' ', 'https://pypi.org/project/protobuf/#files,', '', ' class="postlink"') cloned and modifiedmake_clickable_callback(MAGIC_URL_FULL, ' ', 'https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/protobuf/-/blob/main/PKGBUILD?ref_type=heads', '', ' class="postlink"') to only build python-protobuf using the aforementioned wheel as source, and removing the specific version from protobuf dependency, then I built the python-protobuf package.

I installed the homemande python-protobuf package, and then the protobuf package from ALARM repos. Both MoSh and Podman work now
