after latest updates, storage devices are not detected

Postby pudge » Mon Jun 09, 2025 1:03 am

Problem:

After the latest updates, storage devices are not properly detected.
1) gnome-disk-utility will not recognize any storage device, including the device the OS is running on.
Any additional storage device connected is not detected by gnome-disk-utility.
2) Dolphin, Nemo, and Thunar do not recognize any new storage devices plugged in.
3) In Plasma, "Disks and Devices" shows "No removable devices attached" when there are devices present.
4) lsblk -f does detect and shows all attached devices.

Tested devices & Operating Systems:

This has been tested and displayed the above symptoms on the following:
1) RPi 5 with Plasma running on a USB SSD and linux-rpi-16k-6.12.32-1
2) RPi 5 with XFCE running on a micro SD card and linux-rpi-16k-6.12.32-1
3) RPi 4b with Cinnamon running on a USB SSD and linux-rpi-6.12.32-1
4) Odroid N2+ with Plasma running on a USB SSD and linux-aarch64

I hope this is enough clues to lead someone to a solution because I have no idea.
Maybe linux-firmware ??

It is most likely a dependency issue.

Comparing the immediate dependencies of (say) gnome-disk-utility on ArchlinuxARM with those on Archlinux x86_64 (archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/gnome-disk-utility) they all appear up-to-date. I can only suspect something deeper down the chain—the dependencies of udisks2 perhaps—has not yet been updated. I do not think that you are facing a kernel issue, as lsblk is working.

Try downgrading udisks2 and other file-related dependencies. If this helps, hold on for a little while until all relevent packages have been upgraded.

Thank you @darksky and @ robg for your help and links.
I have tried everything listed to no avail.

@darksky
In the Manjaro link you gave me, I believe that JFL made a typo in post 11

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libgpgme.so.11.33.2 /usr/lib/libgpgme.so.11
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libgpgmepp.so.6.21.3 /usr/lib/libgpmepp.so.6

in the second line:
libgpmepp.so.6 Should be libgpgmepp.so.6 with an added g

I do not have a membership at Manjaro, so I will let you decide what to do

Entering the following in a terminal

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libgpgme.so.45 /usr/lib/libgpgme.so.11

solves the issue for now.

A rebuild of volume_key will fix this.

Also python-gpgme, samba, seahorse, and seahorse-nautilus needs a rebuild as they are also looking for the old libgpgme.so.11.
