Or what I did was add it to fstab, since it was automounting the root, and that stopped that.

What was the fstab command? Did you mean that adding a drive mount rules to fstab would prevent it to be mounted by udevil & devmon since they consider it mounted at boot?

mtab only listed /dev/root and /dev/root != /dev/mmcblk0p2 so the automounter didnt know that it was already mounted.

Just created a fstab rule like any other with /dev/mmcblk0p2 and / and then the automounter could match it up properly.
