Patching kernel for BB View "cape"

Postby hcorion » Sun Jun 12, 2016 3:00 am

Hi All,
I have a BeagleBone Black sitting on my desk waiting to be used. The problem is that the special touchscreen "cape" that I have is not plug and play (as far as the documentation goes). Here are the specs: https://beagleboard.org/black.

uname -a
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'Linux beaglebone 4.1.15-ti-rt-r43 #1 SMP PREEMPT RT Thu Jan 21 20:13:58 UTC 2016 armv7l GNU/Linux')
And it's currently running Debian:

lsb_release -a
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Debian
Description: Debian GNU/Linux 8.3 (jessie)
Release: 8.3
Codename: jessie')

The special cape is made by element14, and is called the BB View. Here is it's site:
https://www.element14.com/community/docs/DOC-55844/l/expansion-board-for-beaglebone-family-with-7-inch-lcd
You can find the downloads here: https://www.element14.com/community/docs/DOC-67958/l/element14-bb-view-lcd-cape-software-download-centre1
And they have a tutorial for patching and using the BB View on Debian, but I'm not quite understanding it. You can find that here: https://www.element14.com/community/thread/31051/l/how-to-bb-view-on-latest-debian?displayFullThread=true
You can also find the BB View User Manual here: https://www.element14.com/community/docs/DOC-65082/l/element14-user-manual-for-bb-view-an-lcd-expansion-cape-for-beaglebone-boards
