Audio not working with raspberry pi 3

Postby nos09 » Sun Jun 12, 2016 2:44 pm

Hello guys,

I have been having problems on raspberry pi 3 with archlinux arm installed on it. Everything is working smoothly but for the audio. I have installed alsa and pulseaudio packages. Alsamixer seems to be working fine. Pulseaudio with pavucontrol shows red cross on audio icon.

Here are some useful information and screenshots:

I have been reading on some forums and some suggested to resolve the issue add the follwing config in /boot/config.txt file :

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
cat /boot/config.txt
# See /boot/overlays/README for all available options
dtparam=audio=on
hdmi_drive=2
')

Pluseaudio packages :

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
pacman -Qs pulseaudio
local/libcanberra-pulse 0.30-6
PulseAudio plugin for libcanberra
local/pavucontrol 3.0-4
PulseAudio Volume Control
local/pulseaudio 8.0-3
A featureful, general-purpose sound server
local/pulseaudio-alsa 2-3
ALSA Configuration for PulseAudio
local/pulseaudio-jack 8.0-3
Jack support for PulseAudio
')

Alsa :
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
pacman -Qs alsa
local/alsa-lib 1.1.1-1
An alternative implementation of Linux sound support
local/alsa-plugins 1.1.1-1
Extra alsa plugins
local/alsa-utils 1.1.1-1
An alternative implementation of Linux sound support
local/pulseaudio-alsa 2-3
ALSA Configuration for PulseAudio
')

Pulseaudio - Pavucontrol (with pavcontrol -v running in the background):

Also when I run mythtvfronend, it gives "X audio disabled" message on the startup. So naturally audio is not working on it.

BTW, the session I am running is VNC. I understand that VNC technically doesn't support sound but atleast pavucontrol should be displaying normal setting right ?!? I have another machine (ubuntu), which is also running a VNC session, and it gets normal pavucontrol.

Ubuntu machine Pavucontrol screenshot over VNC :

I am all clueless at this point. I dont know what else I can do to resolve the issue. Please somebody help me with this problem.
Thanks in advance!
