[Remote Desktop] What's best for remote desktop/X Windows?

Postby cmsigler » Thu Sep 15, 2016 6:42 pm

Hello all,

Not sure if this will generate any interest but thought I'd try.

What do other ArchLinuxARM folks use for remote desktop and graphical display? I've used:

1.) x2go -- Turnkey remote desktop access and sharing tool based on NX Ver. 3 which was open-source; works pretty well but not exactly lightweight any more.

2.) xpra-winswitch -- Works by starting a headless X server display. You set the DISPLAY env var to run graphical programs on these then remotely attach to them from wherever. Self-described as "screen for X11." For me this works pretty well.

The reason I ask is x2go has long been my default tool but the server won't run on the Odroid-C2. Not sure if this is C2 specific or happens with all aarch64 platforms. If curious, please see here.

Since I'm running on bare metal things like SPICE don't seem to be applicable. Am I missing an obvious solution that works pretty well? TIA.
