Why is Arch Linux so popular with posters on r/unixporn?

I'm asking because that sub has kind of inspired me to try fiddling with a highly customizable distro in a VM.

What advantages does Arch Linux have over Gentoo, Slackware, etc? (you're welcome to mention any distros I'm missing)

Though the concept of a quick-and-easy binary package system sounds useful, the idea of building everything up from sources and ebuilds seems exciting and interesting.

Looking for any and all perspectives on the subject.
