Is it possible to migrate armv7 to 8?

Postby loki279 » Sat Jul 11, 2020 8:28 am

Hello,

I'm running a nextcloud on a RP3 and would like to update the hardware to a RP4. Is there a way to migrate the system to armv8 (aarch64)? It would be nice not having to start from scratch with the new setup.

Thanks and best regards!

Possible? Yes. Probably less work to start from a fresh image and just setup package/copy over your configs and user files though. Unless you need 64-bit kernel and userland, the official RPi4 image is not 64-bit, it is armv7h. You can switch out kernel packages and just boot the existing uSD card on the RPi4.
