Using wired and wifi together

Postby Firoj » Sat Nov 07, 2020 1:09 am

Hello everyone,,

Hi,
I have recently been working with the RaspberryPi 3 with the intention of having a system that is portable and where needed, headless. I have managed to get SSH set up from android over USB (for where no known network is available, this works from boot).

The WiFi is still working at this point as ifconfig is giving me an IP for both wlan0 and usb0 however all the traffic is coming/going through the USB tether to my android device, which I would like to avoid when there is a WiFi network.
If I turn off WiFi/Data on the android thus cutting its connection to the internet, the tethered SSH session remains live but the Pi gets no internet from usb0(as intended) but neither from wlan0 and now I cannot ping out to the outside world - wlan0 is still giving me an IP on ifconfig. I can even SSH into the Pi over the WiFi from my arch laptop so I know the connection is there, just the Pi itself doesn't want to use it and its confusing me. Is there a way I can configure this to prefer the wireless when connected while keeping the usb0 connection up for the SSH session and fallback net access?

It took me a few attempts at getting the systemctl and netctl commands to work and stick over a reboot, however both interfaces are connecting automatically when picked up by the Pi which is a good start - I hope.

Any and all help much appreciated :)
