Cannot run chromium on Raspberry Pi

Postby TastyPi » Mon Oct 21, 2013 1:54 pm

Hi there,

I'm a newbie but willing to learn. I just installed archlinux on my Raspberry Pi. I installed the image from this page:
http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads

I'm using my raspberry pi mostly as a monitor-less server and connecting to it via ssh. However, I want to be able to run chromium (or any decent browser -- my first choice would have been firefox but couldn't find it in the arm repositories) via ssh using X11 forwarding.

So, I installed X as per the instructions in the beginners guide
(https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be ... _Interface)
but didn't bother installing any video drivers since I won't be using the raspberry pi with a monitor.

I also "activated" X11-forwarding on the raspberry pi (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/SSH#X11_forwarding)

I tested that X11-forwarding was working by installing and successfully running "xeyes". So, I'm sure that X11 forwarding is working correctly on my Raspberry Pi.

Then, I proceeded to install chromium. It also automatically installed a bunch of other X libraries/components which I'm assuming are chromium's dependencies.

But then, when I attempt to run chormium, I get this error message:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
/usr/lib/chromium/chromium: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/chromium/chromium: undefined symbol: g_type_class_adjust_private_offset
')

I tried googling for this error message but couldn't find anything useful. Any ideas on how to solve it? Perhaps there is another package I need to install? (however I wonder why chromium didn't mark it as a dependency).

As an aside, may I say that the archlinux wiki is amazing and very comprehensive. It has already saved me a lot of time and frustration!

Thanks for the quick reply. doing a pacman -Syu did the trick!

It's running a tad slow though. Any good recommendations for a lightweight browser?
