Moving /usr to external usb storage

Hi,

There is not enough space on my eMMc with archlinux arm, so I decided to move /usr somewhere else,
I tried to move it on usb flash, via rsync -aHv,
then mount it via fstab like this "/dev/sda1 /usr ...."
but arch didnt boot with that config, so I am moved /usr back.

How can I get it works ?

Correct, you cannot do that.
