CuBox-i

Postby kaipee » Sun Jan 19, 2014 2:03 pm

Hey guys,

I'm a regular user of Arch x86_64 (mediocre user, not any great Linux dev or anything lol).
I just recieved a CuBox-i4Pro and was wondering if there were any plans for full Arch ARM support - maybe adding it into devices list?

See
http://imx.solid-run.com/wiki/index.php?title=ArchLinux

I don't like the procedure described it isn't the "Arch Way" (really ? installation script ?).

I only had few minutes to test my Cubox-i2 today but:

SPL works just fine with Cubox-i2 and Arch so the same procedure will work for all Cubox-i models:
* Create 2 partitions: small Win32 and large Linux, use fdisk defaults for the first sector (2048) so you'll have enough space for SPL and uBoot raw writing.
* Format the first as fat, second as ext4.
* Get SPL and uBoot image and dd to the SD card (see how to in the Cubox-i wiki).
* Mount the partitions, download and extract the rootfs, copy kernel uImage to boot partition. (Edit: I'm not sure about the rest of the uBoot files: uboot.scr ..)
* Edit fstab.
* Sync and umount.

p.s.
When I tried sshd was broken (or the keys weren't set), didn't lingered around.
Since then an update rootfs archive was uploaded.
I don't think I'll use this rootfs, I don't know what else wasn't configured correctly, I probably just grab one of the Armv7 rootfs and chroot to install the Cubox-i kernel package.

Hi dhead666,

That's what I have followed. Though it does seem a little strange to me - I feel like I missing something lol. Also I'm not too keen on flashing someone else image from a Dropbox link.

Would it be better to follow a combination of steps from:
- Arch Linux ARM (cubox installation guide)
- SolidRun wiki (cubox guide)

...bearing in mind those are for the original CuBox.

This is my first foray into using ARM devices, so I'm still figuring things out.

Also, I don't seem to be able to detect any wireless device on my cubox-i4pro. Not sure if it's something to do with that rootfs from the wiki or a problem with my device.

@kaipee

I wrote a quick how to create your own rootfs and install it on the sd card from Arch Linux.

Fantastic dhead666,

I'll have a good read through after work.
May I ask, what is SPL? I've seen a few mentions of it but unsure what it relates to. I presume it's something related to ARM architecture?

Thanks
