Pogoplug E02, difficulties: proftpd, webmin

Postby williamtarrantjr » Mon Dec 30, 2013 5:27 am

Hi everyone,

I'm new.

I familiar with linux, but new to Arch. I have a Pogoplug E02, loaded with Arch linux, according to the tutorial on this site.

Anyways, I got pretty far customizing it, but theres a couple things I'm having trouble with, & not sure why.

1, I can't figure out how to install proftpd
I tried & received the following:
#pacman -S proftpd
#error: target not found: proftpd

I also downloaded the tarball, unpacked it to a folder, and tried to compile it using makepkg. First I got a "not available for arm architecture" error, so I used the -Acs option, then I got an error saying "cannot find the strip binary required for object file stripping"

I've read a couple of different posts on this site that seemed to imply that what I tried, had worked for others. So I don't know if something has changed, and its no longer supported, but any help, I'd appreciate.

2, I installed webmin, using pacman. For the most part its great, but whenever I've tried to install a module from the web interface, as soon as I click install, the webpage timesout (i.e. it seems to go nowhere), and nothing is installed. I feel like something is missing, and thats why it seems to point to a page that isn't there & timesout. Ive tried reinstalling it using pacman, but thee is no change. Any thoughts?

Anyone who replies, I appreciate your time. Thanks.

William

Did you install base-devel

Webmin has been packaged by upstream archlinux.org so you can't add modules

I guess not. I found a tutorial for setting up a pogo, which suggested the following:
#pacman -Sy webmin perl-net-ssleay

I'll try that & see if my issues are resolved. Thanks.

base-devel is for building, nothing to do with webmin

regarding webmin, just so I understand, thats the way it is for everyone running the archlinux build.

theres no way to add that functionality back in, right?

Yes, install and run abs
Find the PKGBUILD in /var/abs and edit the obvious (lines beginning with rm), makepkg and install
