Downgrading

I have this issue therefore ruby does not work at all on my up-to-date arch system.

My question is, how do I downgrade ruby to earlier versions that worked? Unrelated, but I also want downgrade my kernel, how do I do that? If possible without recompiling an earlier source which requires lots of build dependencies and takes multiple days. And I would like to make sure that with the downgrade, also other packages are downgraded if needed.
