I had the same problem after a new install of ArchLinuxARM on a TonidoPlug2.
It rebooted fine until I did all the pacman updates, then it wouldn't even start the network to get an IP # from my DHCP router.
I reinstalled ArchLinuxARM again and did the updates again.

THEN I noticed two lines that might explain it:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')2014-06-14 05:53] [ALPM] warning: /etc/passwd installed as /etc/passwd.pacnew
[2014-06-14 05:53] [ALPM] warning: /etc/group installed as /etc/group.pacnew

I think you have the same problem.
You need to merge changes from the .pacnew files into your old passwd and group files.

After I did that, now mine reboots and I can SSH in (even WITH newest updates). :mrgreen:

That looks like a common problem ! And - seems quite easy to fix, given what you said.
I'll think of some backup and will try to do what you said.

Ah, the hope is here.

I'm not sure. You are way beyond me with all the logs and serial connection work you have done in that other thread.

Simplest way to find out is look for .pacnew files in your /etc and see if they need merged into your old .conf files. I don't remember which updates caused it, but one of them added new groups or something to the configuration.

This might not be anything to do with your problem, but its worth looking for .pacnew files to find out. Could be an easy fix.

EDIT: I seem to remember it was either one of the recent SSL updates after the latest round of vulnerabilities, or the SystemD upgrade, so it could be related to your SSH problem.

May be you can provide the md5sum of ArchLinuxARM-kirkwood-latest.tar.gz to check the difference

Hi! You mean the file I used to install arch ? I am afraid I deleted it already (since I haven't rendered it needed once I installed Arch).

You suspect corrupted file during download or would like to know which version causes trouble?
