Midnight commander

Postby balangaman » Wed Jun 11, 2014 9:03 am

Hi,

I'm new on this forum and had not even come across Archlinux until I started messing with my Seagate GoFlex Home server, but now that I've managed to login, I'm curious to know how it works. To find my way around I would like to install Midnight Commander, but can't find any pkg handler installed on the system. Can some one suggest how I resolve this? Do I manually need to download and install pacman first?

pacman is your friend
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pacman
Maybe change to linux-kirkwood kernel first
pacman -Sy linux-kirkwood
Update
pacman -Syu
Install midnight commander
pacman -S mc

I guessed I needed to use pacman but it looks like it isn't installed....

How do I manually install it?

Uh, if you don't have pacman, you're not running Arch Linux ARM.

How can I tell what I'm running?

The output from 'uname -a' gives me:-

Linux axentraserver.xxx.seagateshare.com 2.6.22.18 #14 Wed Oct 27 15:41:03 EDT 2010 armv5tejl armv5tejl armv5tejl GNU/Linux

So please tell me what I'm running.

I mean you are not running Arch Linux ARM. It is not, apparently, installed. This is the Stock, aka out of the box from the manufacturer operating system that you are logged into.

What command do I run to establish whether I am running Arch Linux ARM?

I thought 'uname' would suffice, but I guess not...
