From all indications (and personal experience), Pogoplug no longer allows account holders to remotely activate SSH on their devices. The only way then to change stock u-boot or upgrade u-boot so you can run Arch or Debian on any stock Plug (V4, E02, Pro, Biz, etc.) is to connect and communicate via serial console. In the case of the V4 series, that requires soldering three leads onto the motherboard. If you are not a hands on type, you may wish to aquire an E02 which can be connected to with a CD-ROM cable. Regardless of which Plug you try to upgrade and/or modify, it still requires opening up the case.

Sorry if this was not the news you were hoping for.

Thanks.

I tried contacting tech support by various methods. They didn't reply at all. Finally I got this information after reading several forums. So, I returned the item to Amazon for a full refund.

Apparatly there is a backdoor that will let you enable ssh without my.pogoplug.com

And yhere is also this: http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,2353,3921#msg-3921

I dont have any pogoplugs that still have stock images on them so can't really check. But I can't see why they would completely disable this functionality

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('tjuwin', 'H')ad tried both these on mine before I returned it. Ports are all disabled.

In the second link above it says to forward UDP port 4365 to your pogoplug. After that apparantly the ssh option showed up.

FWIW, I still have some E02s with stock firmware, and the curl method still seems to work.

If an nmap scan shows nothing open, you might not have any recourse but to go to a serial connection. You might be able to find the "regular" models that more exposed, though, seeing as you have already returned the units.
