NSA320 dead after reboot

Postby csibra » Mon Nov 21, 2016 7:08 pm

Hi,

I've installed archlinux on my nsa320, worked fine. After the installation and first boot I can log in through ssh. I've shutted down with shutdown -h, and installed my second hdd in the right slot. It's a 3TB with gpt and 2 linux raid partition.

After switch on, durng boot there was very much hdd access (lasts about 5 minutes). After this finished, I can't log in, the box doesn't asked IP from DHCP server. I dont have ttl serial console now, so I can't see what happens.

I powered off (unplugged the power cord), removed the second hdd, and started the nsa again, but still doesn't asked IP. Hearing the hdd, it loads the kernel (and maybe the initrd), but nothing happens.

OK, i've done the installation process on hdd again as in the usb_key_func.sh and tried again. Same result, after switch on, it loads something (I suspect the kernel and initrd), and stops, nothing happens, can't connect.

Any advice, or I need to check on serial console? I have only 5V ttl usb-serial plug, so I need to wait 'till the 3,3V arrives in 2-3 weeks (ali-express?).

Thanks,
Gergő

It is probably not "dead", but simply not on the network.

Some revisions of the NSA320 have some oddities in the way the ethernet was wired up to support WOL, and having the serial attached can result in that problem being essentially bypassed.

Oh, I'm sure it's not dead. But archlinux doesn't starts. Loading from hdd lasts about 5 seconds, it's too short to boot any linux :)
I can wake the box on lan :)

did you do a pacman -Syu during the first boot? If so, then the kernel got updated, but the kernel on the boot sector didn't, and now it won't boot. Copy the contents of /boot to /dev/sda1 and then try again.

No, I didn't do that. Only booted, logged in on ssh, and was happy: "It's work!". Then I did a shutdown, istalled the second hdd, and rebooted.
But I done again the installation process as in usb_key_func.sh.2 so the hdd is now in the "before first boot" state, and it doesn't starts also.

It won't hurt to try my suggestion, and it might still solve the issue. and add the following to your /etc/fstab

/dev/sda1 /boot ext2 defaults 0 0

OK. Finally I've got the usb-ttl serial port, and I can connect to the nsa320.

The boot is fine, but I get the message: [ 19.134007] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready

Cable is connected, and earlier today there was link. I've tried with another LAN cable, I've rebooted the switch, and the orange link led blinks, but the green led is dark.

Yes, I've read this sollution. Doesn't works. I made a shutdown today morning, and removed the power cord. Now 10-11 hours later plugged the power cord back, and booted, and still no link.
