USB 3.0 ports on ARMv5?

Postby john3voltas » Fri Aug 23, 2013 9:55 am

Hello.
I'm about to buy another plug computer.
I wonder if there is a list of ARMv5 devices with USB 3.0 ports?
I know that there is a PPv4 with USB 3.0. Is it worth it? I mean, anyone ran speed tests so that I can see how much speed improvement I would get?
BTW, are there more than 1 version of the PPv4? I can see some on ebay for less than 30USD(blue logo) and I can see some for 60USD(red or pink logo). Can someone tell me their differences?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers

V4 : pink logo, ~$30USD on Amazon
Mobile (V4-A1): Blue logo, ~$20USD on Amazon

Get the pink one.
I have done the metrics comparisons before.

Hi WarheadsSE.
So, both those pogoplugs (the blue and the pink V4's) have USB 3.0?
How do you compare their HDD speed (being USB 3.0) compared to other units with only USB 2.0?
Is it noticeable?
Right now HDD speed may not interest me much but it may be important in the near future with all the advance in the multimedia world. Nowadays we're fine with 3.500Mbps MKV movies. In the near future that may raise to 2x or 3x.
Are both pink and blue V4's only 800Mhz CPU?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers

I think the blue one does not have usb 3 and sata port. Both are 800MHz and there is no advantage of USB-3 to the 1.2 GHz devices over the network because of the slow cpu. If you want a cheap device get the goflex home dock (no hdd)

Thanks moonman.
Didn't know that hdd I/O over ethernet got capped by slow CPU. What a shame :(.
So I should buy the one that has more CPU and more RAM. Maybe the V2 Pink/Gray since they have 1,2Ghz, 256MB RAM and they have the 4 usb ports. Sheeva/Tonido are in a different league of prices...

Well, the network data has to be processed by something.

@WarheadsSE
I thought that was a task of the network controller. My ignorance ;)
