It's almost sure it's the kernel itself. (3~6 MB?) The uImage header says it's not compressed, but that only means it's not compressed from u-boot point of view. U-boot doesn't decompress it before launching. But in most cases the uImage contains a zimage, which is a compressed kernel with a decompressing piggybag.
So just redo the action on the new file.
