newbiew question about which version to install

Postby JJpogo » Tue Oct 08, 2013 8:40 pm

I'm here with another newbie question.

It looks like v3.11 has been out for about a month. Is that "linux-kirkwood"? If people used the standard install instructions, would they be getting 3.11? So they shouldn't need to use the command "pacman -Sy linux-kirkwood"?

The announcement about 3.11 also had files for "headers" and "patches". Do those come along with the pacman -Sy, or is that a separate step to get those incorporated? I'm not really sure what they are.

Here's was the original post I'm referring to:

linux-kirkwood is not the one in the rootfs. You need to install it with pacman. If you have no plans to compile any kernel modules you don't need the headers and. The patches: don't worry about these unless you want to add a new device to the support list.
