NSA320 - Slow SMB Write, 75MB Read Speed (Gigabit) (NSA320)

Postby Fma965 » Thu Nov 28, 2013 10:46 pm

Hey guys me again so i recently bought a Zyxel NSA320 and installed archlinuxarm (your guide failed, serial was needed to fix, really should be a notice that the install script is unreliable)

Any way. I get around 60-75MB/s on reading from the attached HDD but only around 3-8MB/s write (10MB/s some times)

Here is my SMB.conf file.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '[global]
workgroup = WORKGROUP
server string = NAS
netbios name = NAS
disable netbios = yes
printcap name = /dev/null
load printers = no
disable spoolss = yes
printing = bsd
log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
max log size = 50
security = share
dns proxy = no
map to guest = Bad User
unix extensions = false
oplocks = no
level2 oplocks = no
socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_RCVBUF=65536 SO_SNDBUF=65536
write cache size = 2097152
getwd cache = yes
min receivefile size = 16384
use sendfile = true
aio read size = 16384
aio write size = 16384
public = yes

[Media]
path = /hdd1/media/
read only = no
public = yes
writable = yes
')

Any ideas on the issue? Or on how to increase read speed (surely i should be getting around 20-30 atleast? I have a gigabit network and its clearly working as a gigabit network since the read speed is great.

I am using a EXT4 formatted HDD attached internally to the NSA320 and am running archlinuxARM from a usb pen.

Please suggest a fix, thanks.

I am seeing this myself, but haven't had a lot of time, being holidays and all, to look at it.

hmm, Thanks for confirming the issue, I can use linux and manage basic things but i have tried the obvious things... changing mount options and smb.conf settings, but still nothing. If you find a answer any time please let me know, thanks.

I downgraded the NSA320 all the way to 3.6.9 for samba and smbclient, this showed no change.

So this is defintely not a issue with my setup then? if so thats good because i was going to flash stock and try and see what speeds were like, but i can't as i can't get stock uboot installed (im using davygravy's can some one extract stock uboot for me?) also debian also has really slow samba speeds incase this helps.

Well, I even went back to kernel 3.10.10 along with samba 3.6.9, nothing changed.

Hmm, so what is likely to be the problem? Any ideas at all? I also tried different HDD formats just for testing and it was still slow, ext4, ext3 and xfs (although i didn't test xfs on archlinux only on debian)

Also do you happen to have a copy of the stock uBoot for the NSA320 if so i would love to have a copy of it.

Thanks for trying some stuff :)

I do have it, but I'd have to dump it.
