Pogoplug Mobile Install

Postby Bethhere » Fri Aug 08, 2014 3:12 pm

We're curious to know if the Arch Linux software available for PogoPlug Series 4 is suitable for the PogoPlug Mobile. The devices are nearly identical on the outside, but we've run into issues. I'm quite new to all of this, so please be patient.

We attempted an install on our PogoPlug Mobile, following the PogoPlug Series 4 instructions very carefully. Everything appeared to install properly, but now we are stuck with a flashing green light (and no way to SSH in). Since the devices are cheaper than dirt these days, we purchased another, attempted an install, but have been met with the same results.

U-Boot appeared to install correctly, so we had hoped that we could revert to PogoPlug firmware using the instructions on the Advanced tab, but that doesn't work. We've also tried a fresh install of the file system (twice actually, trying EXT3 and EXT4), but still no luck. Is the Arch Linux software for Series 4 compatible with the Mobile? Thanks everyone for any help!!

It's definitely compatible. I installed it today on my Pogoplug Mobile following the instructions. In the end I realized that I'd rather have a separate partition for the system so I tried to follow the reinstallation instructions (using a live cd) but that actually gave me the flashing green light thing (I still occasionally get that every other boot or so, no idea why, I just unplug the power cable and plug it back in and then it usually works).

I tried the revert and it failed at first, but when I used a different stick it did actually work (though it should be noted that the LED didn't actually turn red as the website said, it just turned off for a second or two and then went back to blinking.. it did that for a few times and then it was all green and it was back to stock. Make sure that it's formatted in FAT32 and then hope one of your sticks is going to work. I have a third one here but the second one did it :) They were both USB3, so that doesn't seem to be relevant.

Bazinga! We've been using MacOS Disk Utility to set up the revert thumb drive, and had needed to go into partitioning options to make sure the drive would be recognized by a non-Mac system. Thanks y'all!
(Also, we changed the name of the stick that worked to rootfs. Dunno if that helped at all, just happy we're working again.)

Over the weekend I tried installing Arch on my pogo mobile. I used this tutorial http://blog.qnology.com/2014/07/hacking ... obile.html

installing arch instead of debian of course. everything went well until at the very end it say to reboot and everything should wok. After reboot the pogo will blink green for a lil bit then blink red and seems to reboot and repeat the blinking lights. I've tried reverting only once. So when I get home i'll try other usb sticks and make sure my Format is correct as suggested in the thread. Any one experience this sequence of blinking lights?

Why not just use our tutorial?
