NSA325 Revert

Postby Socaltom » Sun Apr 19, 2015 7:52 pm

I'm thinking of trying out the stock firmware on my NSA325. Is this the proper way to do it?

1) revert to stock with

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'fw_setenv bootcmd 'run to_stock'')

OK I tried that and I got this."

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '[root@PogoServerV5 ~]# fw_setenv bootcmd 'run to_stock'
Cannot parse config file: Invalid argument
Error: environment not initialized')

Now what?

OK, I had to edit /etc/fw_env.config to put this in there

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '# Utilite 1
/dev/mtd1 0x0000 0x2000 0x2000')

So now fw_printenv works, but I get this

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '[root@PogoServerV5 ~]# fw_printenv
Warning: Bad CRC, using default environment
bootargs=
bootcmd=bootp; setenv bootargs root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=${serverip}:${rootpath} ip=${ipaddr}:${serverip}:${gatewayip}:${netmask}:${hostname}::off; bootm
bootdelay=3
baudrate=115200
stdin=serial,cros-ec-keyb
stdout=serial,lcd
stderr=serial,lcd')

Where do I go from here?

OK, so I finally editted fw_env.config and removed all the extra stuff. Even though they were commented out there was something going on. fw_printenv finally worked, and so I did the "run to_stock" and it booted the zyxel fw

My NSA325 v2 has:

/dev/mtd1 0x0 0x20000 0x20000

So and extra 0 on the 2000 ....

Although somewhat interesting my boot messages say:

FWIW, I've un-reverted back to Arch. I had never really tried the stock FW, so I wanted to give it a try. For basic NAS operations, it seems fine to me. It has some nice applications to autoload to flicker and youtube accounts, and I didn't have any problems getting ffp installed. Zyxel has it available as a package on there beta server, so it was pretty painless.

The reasons I switched back.
1) It wouldn't let me create machine users, so things like lighttpd had to have normal user access. Although I was able to limit the access to the http directory, it still made me uneasy.
2) I doesn't run motion. Motion is not available in the ffp packages, and I was unable to get it to compile due to a pthread error.
3) It makes you use a raid filesystem, so I can't move the drive somewhere else and read it.
Plus, I'm almost comfortable with Arch at this point, so I might as well stick with it.
