Pogoplug E02 with Transmission and VPN Setup?

Postby gezeebeezee » Thu Apr 30, 2015 4:45 pm

I currently have a Pogoplug E02 with ALARM installed. Transmission is installed as well as PlexMediaServer and CouchPotato. I want to be more secure when using Transmission so I've been looking into VPNs. I decided on Private Internet Access (haven't purchased yet) but I have no clue how to install it.

I've googled and searched the forums on how to do this. I found a guide for OpenVPN but I'm unsure of how to use that with PIA. I also found a good guide for using PIA with transmission while maintaining remote access but the commands were different because it was a Linux guide and not Arch Linux. My understanding of Arch Linux and VPNs are on a noob level. So please help!

Point us at this "non-working" tutorial, we might be able to translate it for you.

Thanks for your help!

Here is the guide I used to install Arch Linux and transmission:
http://blog.qnology.com/2013/03/tutoria ... x.html?m=1

Here is the guide I found that is what I am trying to do but not written for Arch:
http://www.htpcguides.com/remote-access ... -vpn-linux

The first guide has a tutorial for installing OpenVPN but I'm not sure how to configure that for PIA.

Most of that is viable.

Here is the openvpn@.service file
Code: Select all
[Unit]
Description=OpenVPN connection to %i

[Service]
Type=forking
ExecStart=/usr/bin/openvpn --cd /etc/openvpn --config /etc/openvpn/%i.conf --daemon openvpn@%i --writepid /run/openvpn@%i.pid
PIDFile=/run/openvpn@%i.pid

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

As you can see here, this is used in the form of `systemctl start openvpn@pia.conf` and it wil load the config from /etc/openvpn/pia.conf

Or, you can just cheat https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/pia-tools/

Linux and Arch Linux looks like a foreign language to me. :shock:

Any help on installing AUR packages? I've tried looking at the AUR user guidelines...feels like I'm reading Chinese

How is this guide for cheating? I like the step by step tutorial of this one...

P.s. Thanks for helping!!

Thats much more in-line with the basics, and will get you working with PIA. However, the PIA-tools I linked seem to cover the particular use-case you describe more explicitly.

I suggest having a look at the `cower` package.
