It does not acquire an IP address either. This is kernel 4.0.1-1-ARCH.
I can boot it off a USB which has kernel 3.19.0-1-ARCH. I had done a pacman -Syu after booting off the usb some time ago which installed linux-kirkwood 4.0.1-1

In advance, many thanks to help fix this.

First thing I would do is upgrade U-Boot. You seem to be running an old U-Boot which would not run kernels past 3.2 (or some versions would work, some would not; mostly not).

Thanks! That explains it. A recent update got kernel 4.0.2-1-ARCH and this one boots with the existing U-Boot.
I'll try a newer one.
