and the ethernet on my GFH no longer works.

Going to get into the device via rescue mode, how can I boot an earlier kernel?

Looks like BFQ bug. Edit/create uEnv.txt with the following line added:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'optargs=elevator=cfq')
It should get you booting for now, next release will have this fixed

Fixed in 4.2.1-2

If you can't boot now, then if you have a rescue system installed, just boot into that, then:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'mount /dev/sda1 /mnt # Assuming sda1 is your rootfs partition
arch-chroot /mnt /usr/bin/bash
pacman -Suy
exit
sync
reboot')

If you have no rescue system, then you will have to use any linux machine. Create or edit uEnv.txt under /boot on the rootfs partition with the following contents:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'optargs=elevator=cfq')
Then boot your arm device, run full update with pacman -Syu and remove changes to uEnv.txt

It is not dead. Is it just linux-firmware that you updated

jumped on irc #archarm-linux yesterday and WarheadSE helped me downgrade the kernel using arch-chroot.

I will not update my nas, there's too much important stuff on it

:lol:

ok, as WarheadSE insists,

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'Linux goflexhome 4.2.1-2-ARCH #1 PREEMPT Tue Sep 22 21:58:45 MDT 2015 armv5tel GNU/Linux')

working, fixed, thankyou moonman
