How to boot directly into X

I am a Pi newbie, but have used Linux for years. I am trying to figure out how to boot directly into x and the lxdm bootscreen for login.

Install xf86-video-fbturbo
Install lxdm
enable lxdm.service
Install lxdm
enable lxdm.service

Maybe I did something incorrectly?

Got it. I didn't understand that I needed to run systemctl enable. All works now. Thanks.
