"Last login: 1969" when logging in with ssh

I have a raspberry pi with Arch Arm installed. For some reason when I login via ssh I get the following message after logging in:

Last login: Wed Dec 31 16:00:18 1969

What is odd, when I run the date command it shows the correct local time and year. As far as I can tell the incorrect last login time is not causing any problems, but I would like to find out what is causing it.
