RTL8188CUS my worst nightmare

Postby aqwrolf » Wed Aug 20, 2014 9:12 pm

Hello Everybody!

I recently bought myself a raspberry pi and happend to also buy this super special cheap mini usb wlan stick. Well it isn't that super. Following various guides I went from it doesen't work to it doesen't work. So no progress at all. Every guide that I read happens to be missing something, like a file or even a script which should be there according to the "guide" but isn't. It is just frustrating.
As if this wasn't enough, I realized that it shouldn't be *that* difficult; compiling the driver is possible. Well I also realized that it maybe be possible but I am just to stupid to do it.

So here's my problem: My pi can "see" the wifi-stick:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '[root@alarmpi ~]# lsusb
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0bda:8176 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8188CUS 802.11n WLAN Adapter')
but on the other hand, it can't:$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
[root@alarmpi ~]# ip link
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default
link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: ifb0: <BROADCAST,NOARP> mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 32
link/ether 16:19:59:6c:ab:06 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: ifb1: <BROADCAST,NOARP> mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 32
link/ether 5a:1d:e7:6d:95:70 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
4: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
link/ether b8:27:eb:10:48:56 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff')
(Jep, I have no idea why I've got the two ifb0/ifb1 interfaces which weren't there when I begun tinkering :S)

Soo.... Any ideas what I could do?

Make sure you are upto date and reboot
Install dkms-8192cu and reboot
Use the wifi-menu tool

Wait a second, there is a package in the repos for this? If I only knew this before :/

Thanks a lot, I gonna try this tomorrow(However not with wifi-menu since I need to create an access point and not to connect to one :)
